Have your children started sniffing and sneezing from seasonal allergies? Well, it's that time of year again and I have a couple of helpful hints to keep those allergies away! For one, eat the local honey in your area! The local pollens in the honey work as a natural homeopathy to give you small doses of those pesky pollens which adapt your symptoms to them and lessen those seasonal symptoms,' according to The Blue Lake Apothecary. My rule of thumb, go to your local Co-op or find a bee maker in your area. You want to stay away from any "mainstream/grocery store brand" honey, because most likely they have been put through an extensive chemical process, riding it of all the good benefits.
There are many other healthy benefits of honey as well. For one, it's a natural sweetener, so your child's body actually knows what to do with it, versus if they eat refined sugar. Honey also is an incredible antiseptic, antioxidant and has many cleansing properties for the body. But remember, just because it's good for you doesn't mean you should be feeding it to your child all day long. Remember, a calorie is a calorie and honey is up there when it comes to calories.
One more thing: infants should not eat honey, because there is a risk of botulism, a bacteria that can be found in honey and when ingested by an infant, can release a toxin that causes botulism. But other than that, honey can have many positive affects for our bodies.
How to eat honey? Sweeten your homemade iced tea. Make a whole wheat peanut butter, honey and banana sandwich. Pour it over fresh fruit for a dessert. Use it as a dip, be creative!
So help rid your child of allergies this season and make an investment in some raw honey in your areas!
